Detailed Information:
Myelography is used to detect injuries and deformities of the spine. These can include fractures, dislocations, osteoporosis, curvature deformities, herniated disks, tumors (including tumors in the lower part of the brain) and injuries to nerve roots. Myelography can also be used to evaluate problems in the spinal cord before surgery. Contrast dye is injected into the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. The contrast enables the surgeon to view internal structures.
For more information on the injection of the dye, see spinal tap.
